I have always enjoyed stained glass windows. I finally got around to taking a class about ten years ago and discovered my passion. I always have a project on the go now.
Stained Glass is an extraordinary and vibrant medium for creating unusual and exciting art, which can enrich personal and family living space as well as public places. A variety of items can be created in stained glass – lightcatchers, wall Plaques, mirrors, cabinet door panels and interior windows.
I like to use the traditional copper foil technique. Each piece of glass is hand cut separately, the edges made smooth using a grinder. The edges of each piece is then wrapped in copper foil and the pieces joined together (just like a jigsaw!) and then soldered in place. Although the process of stained glass is very time consuming – the end result is always worth it.
Each stained glass piece comes to life when the light shines through. As the hours and seasons progress, the light changes and the stained glass panel responds – there is always something new to find in it.
More recently I have commenced making mosaic items – using tiles and glass. Mosaic mirrors provide an excellent and unusual addition to any room.
Commissions are welcome.
